November 13 @ 7:00 am - 2:00 pm

$15 – $30

Let’s run for children who walk miles to live every day. Be part of something bigger than yourself as you run or walk in person or virtually, so that orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe and Rwanda can partner with us in a powerful empowerment program called Zoe Empowers (zoeempowers.org). There is also a possibility to contribute even if physically you cannot participate in the event. We will meet on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 7:00 a.m. at Family Church of Windermere at 300 Main Street, Windermere. Race start time is at 7:30 a.m.

When these children were told that we would ask people to pay to walk or run, these children were incredulous! They could not only believe our generosity in getting more children in the life-changing program, but also that anyone would voluntarily walk or run if they did not have to just to survive. These children spend hours in a day in basis life-sustaining functions, like…

walking for water…
walking for food and supplies…
walking to work in their fields…
walking to gain access to health care…
walking to school or vocational training…
walking to their shops and places of business…
walking to meetings where they learn their rights and seek justice for wrongs…

What is Zoe Empowers? It is a holistic empowerment program where these youth are equipped with the tools and trainings to escape life-threatening poverty for good. Empowering all areas of life is the only way out.

The children are grouped into support groups of 60-100 children (20-25 separate households). They do not live together, but they move through life together, often beyond the 3-year program period. They receive eight basic inputs simultaneously over the three-year empowerment period (such as business training, access to education and vocational training, moves to safe housing, access to health care and training in health-related topics, micro-grants and access to capital, training in child rights and justice, food insecurity, and the formation of community connections). It is powerful and successful (see https://zoeempowers.org/our-impact/ for data and information on how we know this program is working to provide immediate and generational change.)

Please be a part of getting more children in this powerful program that St. Luke’s UMC has believed in for over six years. Through our church support, and that of many families, we have assisted over 2000 youth in taking part in this life-empowering mission. Zoe Empowers as an organization has enrolled almost 125,000 children in six African countries and 2 areas in India. But there are so many more children waiting. Sign up at ZOE 5K or come and register on November 13. Here (ZOE GIVE link) is a link to donate even if you cannot attend physically or virtually. Let’s run and walk for children who walk miles everyday just to survive!
